I’m still on the fence (I don’t want to get prematurely excited about that situation and then have it blow up in my face), but I’m inclined to agree with you.
I think it’s very interesting that this formal apology was issued. I think this is indicative of what we were speculating about the night before the Kim thing blew up (here) — that the external pressures are really weighing on him right now.
He’s always been considered “the face of One Direction” to an extent, but his rise to super-fame since Haylor has been meteoric, and a lot of the extra attention he’s been getting has been negative. And while I’m sure he’s now conditioned to ignore a lot of that, it would be impossible to ignore it all.
The fact that the Mirror acknowledges that they caused him “distress” makes my heart ache for him. The fact that someone went out of their way to inform the Mirror that they fucked up and needed to apologize — especially considering how Harry is treated by his own management and PR teams — makes me feel like this is really, really weighing on him.
And remember how Gemma called out the mother of his childhood friend who did an interview claiming that he sent her inappropriate text messages (years ago, no less) — and then immediately backtracked when she got called out for it?
The fact that Gemma acknowledged it seemed really telling to me. And it’s completely understandable that something like that would really bother Harry because hello, how much more shitty can you get?
I will say (for the hundredth time lol) that I have no idea what’s going on in his head. But if I were him, I would be exhausted, and I would be sick of the fame, and I would wish I could go somewhere — anywhere — without people taking pictures of me, and I would be upset that I work so hard every day to prove to everyone that I’m a really good fucking person, and what I get in return in is shit like that press.
But that’s just me. ha.
